Unlike the rest of the Sendai factory, the machining section works 24/7. It has to, as it turns out every single lens mount for every Nikon SLR and mirrorless camera worldwide, irrespective of factory. (Most of Nikon’s SLR bodies are assembled in Thailand, with the new 1 series assembled in China). The process starts with brass blanks, which are then machined into their basic shape by this CNC miller. You can see stacks of the finished articles in the blue box to the right of the photo.
