Xbox 360 vs. PlayStation 3: Five years on In November 2006, the Sony PlayStation 3 squared off against Microsoft's Xbox 360 for the very first time. After months of boasting, promises and pot-shots, the two next-gen consoles finally clashed head-to-head in a battle to win gamers' allegiance. In the past half-decade, the gaming landscape has changed considerably. Both consoles have undergone several hardware refreshes and provided new services and peripherals. They have also generated controversies, such as the Xbox 360's Red Ring of Death and Sony's PSN hacking scandal.
