Virtual Boy (Nintendo, 1995)Okay, so the Nintendo Virtual Boy isn't exactly obscure, but it is an ultra-rare and highly-prized collectors' item, which justifies its inclusion here. Debuting in 1995, this bizarre portable 3D gaming device confounded consumers in more ways than one: the blocky monochromatic graphics caused headaches and dizzy-spells, while the system's weight caused frequent neck strain. The Virtual Boy was discontinued less than a year after its release and remains Nintendo's biggest hardware flop to date. When it comes to quirky collector items though, it's hard to top.
