Wipeout 2097 (Psygnosis, 1996)

At first glance, Wipeout 2097 doesn't seem to have much in common with cyberpunk - it's just a racing game featuring futuristic hover-crafts. But glance past the track to the world beyond and the genre's influence becomes a lot more apparent. The dark, polluted cityscapes, Japanese future-tech and huge advertising billboards are all classic Dystopia. The corporate-sponsored aircraft and assortment of lethal weapons also fit the mould. And then there's the pulsing techno soundtrack featuring the cream of UK electronica - if the cyberpunk genre had its own mix tape, this would be it.
