Best PlayStation 2 game Ten years on, and it's easy to forget just how groundbreaking and influential GTA III was. In addition to kick-starting the whole sandbox genre, it presented gamers with a tabloid-baiting world of uncompromising crime and violence. The game's gritty urban sprawl truly felt like a living, breathing city - in which all your darkest fantasies were possible. The ability to follow the mission-based narrative or wander off to do your own thing has been much copied since. Honourable mentions: Shadow of the Colossus, We ♥ Katamari, Guitar Hero II, Okami, Final Fantasy X, Dragon Quest 8, Gran Turismo 4, God of War, Mashed, TimeSplitters 2.
