#6 Nintendo Game Boy (1989 - 1998) The grandaddy of portable gaming. We were tossing up between this, the Game Boy Color and the Nintendo DS. In the end, we decided to plump for the 1989 monochrome model - originality goes a long way. The Nintendo Game Boy is proof positive that gamers cared about more than just graphics. While the Sega Game Gear and Atari Lynx boasted stereo sound and full colour screens, the Game Boy eclipsed them when it came to gameplay.
