PC Authority Reliability & Service Awards 2008
Everyone from Apple to Gigabyte was in attendance at the PC Authority Reliability & Service Awards 2008 ceremony held last night. More than 20,000 people filled out the survey, covering 130 brands and over 16 categories, to determine the best & worst technology of 2008. As with previous years, voters weren't shy about praising their favourite brands, and punishing those that failed to live up to hype. Nikon, Apple, Canon, Billion, ASUS and Samsung were among the Award winners this year.

OLPC XO Laptop
We're told there will be only 1,200 of the Shrek-like laptops on offer in Australia when they go on sale November 30. At the heart of the OLPC is a Linux system, with 1GB of flash storage. You have the ability to run XP off SD card if you want, and there's WiFi, 3 USB slots, a Webcam and a 7.5" LCD.

Toshiba NB100
The NB100 covers all the basics for a netbook - XP, 1GB RAM, Atom CPU, and 120GB HDD. We can't help thinking the $700+ starting price and relatively uninspiring battery life mean it will have a hard time usurping the Eee PC 1000H - though for basic commutes, it'll do the job.

Panasonic Toughbook CFU1 goes outback
We took the latest model Toughbook to the hottest part of the Australian desert just to see how much punishment we could extract upon it. Along the way, we met a few interesting characters...

Touchscreen compacts are beginning to making their presence felt - they look classy, with next to no buttons, and big, beautiful screens for viewing your photos. Nikon's COOLPIX S60 is priced at $549 and has 10Mp, ISO 3200, SD slot, and comes in black, red, pink, or white.

TViX R-2230
One of the main selling points of DViCO's new TViX PVR range are that the baby TViX R-2230 plays ripped VOB and ISO files from DVD movies. The unit will sell for $399 when it goes onsale in Australia in November this year.

Photos: HTC Touch Pro unboxed
The HTC Touch Pro goes where other smartphones fear to tread, by combining about every feature under the sun, including both a touchscreen AND a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The $1,099 outright price is expensive, but less than you'll pay for Nokia's music and TV phone, the N96. If you were put off by the Touch Diamond's funky touch-only interface, this could be your ticket to a better Windows Mobile experience.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T77
We're excited about the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T77 for a couple of reasons. First, it's incredibly small. Pull this camera out of your pocket and people often marvel at how small it actually is (for the record the DSC-T77 is 15mm wide). Second, this camera is not a toy - the 10.1Megapixel unit actually takes decent photos, and has some lowlight and macro abilities that had us genuinely surprised. We were particularly impressed by the DSC-T77's ability to take decent shots without flash, under poor

[Maximise page to see captions] Sony's "Uchi" was created for this week's worldwide product launch. Meaning "home" in Japanese, the Uchi consisted of a variety of rooms, setup to showcase the latest Sony products, including the Motionflow 200Hz Bravia Z Series TV, Sony's Alpha a900 full frame Digital SLR, and hard drive equipped Giga Juke music player. Interestingly, just about everything on show was networked.
