Product alert: Lenovo LCD is “gold” for environment
Nov 9, 2007
Lenovo has won the first “gold” in the monitor category of the EPEAT, the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, which rates hardware with Olympic-style medals for environmental impact.

Lenovo has won the first “gold” in the EPEAT monitor category, for the new ThinkVision L193p desktop LCD. EPEAT, the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, rates hardware with Olympic-style medals for environmental impact.

EPEAT uses 51 different criteria to assess the “green friendliness” of various electronic products. It covers reduction of nasty materials, new “cradle-to-cradle” ideas where the disposal of the device at end-of-life is considered at its beginning, product longevity extension (which goes against the grain of intended obsolescence, that uncanny ability for electronic devices to fail the minute their warranty is up, forcing you to buy new products every 12 months, and hence stress the environment), energy consumption, packaging and finally corporate performance.

Aside from the distinction of being the first monitor with the “gold” rating, the L193p is also the first in the EPEAT registry to use more than 25% recycled plastic. We’re really quite impressed, which is a rare event at PC Authority magazine.

The ThinkVision L193p LCD is available now, as a stand-alone item and will be available as part of the ThinkCentre A61e desktop system.
