An impressive little printer, its incredibly light and portable design makes the LBP-1120 perfect for the space-conscious small business home business operator with limited work area.
Mounted on the rear of the housing, the paper input feeder holds 125 sheets of 135gsm paper, although the output tray is a mere 50 pages, so this unit isn’t physically equipped or intended for bulk printing.
One of the better looking models; its sleek rounded lines are easy on the eye, while the small form factor of the unit makes it ideal for the confined workspace.
With only 512KB of buffering RAM installed on the unit, the slower than average print times are not too surprising, averaging around the 18 second mark per page of text.
The LBP-1120 is an incredibly quiet printer, which is welcome in an enclosed office space. It has reasonable TCO costs for low volumes, although costs rise when printing more than 150 pages a day. At $379, it’s only a little more expensive than a moderate inkjet printer, but is significantly less expensive to run over time.
Although light and quiet, it’s not the most physically robust printer, lacking a little in the expansion department, with no option for further RAM or network connectivity, although these are fairly minor drawbacks given the unit’s cost.
The LBP-1120 sports USB connectivity, but it’s not one for the Mac users, as there’s no native support.
The LBP-1120 does have a lot of competition in the Minolta 1200W, as well as the Samsung ML-1510 in the same price range. Ultimately, the LBP-1120 is not a bad printer, but it’s outclassed in this Labs comparison.
