Despite sitting in third place for write speeds and fourth overall for the read portion of our testing, this drive has a couple of trump cards up its sleeves.
Although $20 more expensive than the cheaper Samsung drive and third most expensive overall, it does ship with some useful goodies. These include a copy each of Nero 6, ASUSDVD, Cyberlink Medi@Show SE, PowerDirector, an IDE cable, audio cable and manual eject pin should something go wrong.
Another advantage of this drive is its short length, smaller than standard optical devices making it perfect for the confined space in small form factor housings. While not a huge pull, it does make it more suitable for the stealth look everyone is after in media centres and portable PCs. Well priced for the amount of kit you get, we’ve awarded this burner our Labs winner award for its flexibility, reasonable price and bundle inclusions.
