The Vivicam 5 is a 24-bit 640 x 480 digital camera, which you can almost hide in the palm lf your hand. You won't want to -- it does look cute, and it comes with a silver chain, so you can hang it around your neck. An extra faceplate is supplied for colour-changing if need be. The bundle also ships with a cradle to use it as a Web-cam, although we found that one bump, and the camera and cradle would fall.
The camera is operated with two buttons, one for the mode, and one to shoot. A status LCD indicates the number of photos left and displays available options. You can switch between high/low quality and different resolution settings (640 x 480, 320 x 240, 160 x 120). At high-res/high-quality, you get 52 shots, and at low-res/low-quality, you get 104 shots, all in 8MB of space.
No flash, which inhibits use, but you can switch between a couple of lighting modes. A really nifty feature is the video capture at 320 x 240, although the quality is not great. We found, though, that pushing the 'mode' button with anything but your fingernail was a Herculean task.
It's surprisingly rugged, despite being plasticky all over. For this size and price -- we don't have much to complain about.
