Windows 7 beta screenshots leaked

Windows 7 beta screenshots leaked

Screenshots of what is said to be the next version of Microsoft's Windows operating system have been leaked onto the internet..
[UPDATE: It looks as though the ThinkNext.net blog page with the screenshots mentioned below has gone down.]

The ThinkNext.net blog posted a range of screenshots over the weekend which it said represents Windows 7.

The images include the start menu and a range of other administration views, such as program lists and the Control Panel. Mainstay applications such as Paint and Calculator are also represented.

Overall, the screenshots show a distinctly Vista-like interface, but there is still plenty of time for tweaks and changes to take place.

There is little text or comment on the blog pages, which seem to be letting the photos and video speak for themselves. So far Microsoft has not commented on the purported leak.

There is currently no fixed launch date for the next version of Windows, but it is slated for release some time in 2009.

The screenshots have been taken down by request - either by Microsoft or someone team acting on their behalf.

Windows 7 is currently in NDA beta and they are trying to plug the leaks by the looks of things.

Interesting one site I visited said windows 7 will have a feature where it will keep your games update by regularly checking for patches; etc. Don't know if this will be workable with all gaming companies ...

One other thing I heard was that there would be fewer included apps, music, photo editing, etc but they would be available as downloads.

Really, more of a "Thin Client" operating system.

They really do have to compete with Linux now.

Cheers

Yes Malai5 from what I've heard it's going to just a basic OS install and then you have to obtain addon applications -the question is will there be ab online apps store much like iphone? This IS a possibility!

I think M$ have realised that having all the different versions of MS Vista didn't help their marketing of the "new" OS so with windows 7 they'll do one Windows for all users but you'll have to "buy in" for addons to do more than boot to windows. Maybe they'll argue it's all to do with piracy or the EU's decision on anti-trust regarding IE *shrug* but it is sure to be for getting you wallet out to spend....

Me interesting to watch the development of windows 7 especially how business will receive it on launch...how's deployment in big companies going to work if you have to purchase the apps? etc...

I would certainly be a lot more willing to pay for Windows 7 if I know that I am only buying the base system, ie. the part I actually need.

I very rarely use any of the bundled applications that come with Windows, not having to buy them even if you've no intention of using them gives consumers much better value for money...assuming of course that M$ set the price of Windows 7 to a level proportionate with what you are actually buying and don't just chop out all the add ons but leave the price the same or drop it by an inappropriately miniscule amount.

I saw the screenshots posted on another site (which shall remain nameless). It's too early to properly speculate on Windows 7, though if it remains the same as the screenshots, it looks like Vista Junior (not much different). I guess all the changes are underneath; hopefully a one-size-fits-all consumer edition this time.

Mate tell me about it. All the interesting and cool events happen in the U.S!

Microsoft fan or not, at least you'd get a free 160gb disk woohoo!

There is only ONE feature that would make me believe that this will be a mature and user friendly OS and that is an OBJECT ORIENTATED desktop.

It is so obvious and clunky when the desktop shortcut once creates is not a 'shadow' of the original icon! Uninstall an application and then what happens to the desktop icon, it sits there as an orphan and when the user clicks on it... MS spits the dummy and is VERY confusing for the average non compuer nerd!
