Boasting a sparkling 10.4” TFT LCD screen, the Ultraview digital photo frame from Alsotech isn’t going to win any awards for image resolution, but we found the 640 x 480 pixel count adequate. Photos tend to show a good level of brightness and clarity when previewed.
The Ultraview frame also provides a good selection of removable memory types including CF, SD, MS, XD, MMC and USB. A handy remote control allows you to adjust a number of settings including the ability to access 6 pictures in one view and slideshows with multiple transition effects.
You can also watch your photos against the background of your favourite Mp3 tunes, via the internal speaker of the unit; be it Elton John’s Crocodile rock for that wild Kakadu trip or the wiggles for your children’s birthday party pics.
The unit will output to a TV via video and audio jacks and the image is good, considering the large blow up required for the large screen plasma we tested it on.
A nice function is the ‘logo’ save which allows you to save a favourite photo and go back it. A small drawback is that the unit only works with AC power, so portability around the home might be difficult.
The unit also supports video; one of its strongest features is that it can play DivX (Mpeg4) AVI files and MPEG1 and MPEG2 files. That’s handy if you like to save home movies from your camera onto your memory stick and want to show them to your friends and family along with the JPEG slideshows.
The frame itself is quite attractive; the glass trim is neat and modern and should have no problem fitting in with a home setting.
This is another digital frame for the market that sacrifices quality for price, but gets the job done with an array of useful features. The frame retails for $219 online at
Alsotech.
