The snappily-titled USB 2.0 Media Kit is essentially what it looks like. It’s a webcam, a three port USB 2 hub and a two-channel audio controller with 3.5mm headphone and microphone ports. It plugs into your PC by a mini USB cable and sports a plug for powered USB (everything works without it being plugged in). The ports all work fine, though the webcam takes up the third USB hub port – we’d like more.
The VGA webcam claims 652 x 488 active pixels and 30fps video. However, it only offers a very-low quality 320 x 240 image both for still pictures and video and the bendy neck wobbles a lot. Photo quality is consequently dire: grainy and very low res and video was dark, grainy and poor too. It smacks of the technology of yesteryear. As such, it’s not a very good webcam, not a very good USB hub and everyone already has these audio ports.
