Hot! Looks like a mini Macbook Pro, but chubby.
Comment made about the PC Authority article: HP's Mini-Note: best laptop under $1,000?? It's tiny, it's light, it's got lots of storage, and a bigger screen and more tricks than the current EeePC - it looks like HP has nailed the mini-notebook.

Looks pretty, pity about the price... Bluetooth is certainly nice though. |

Yeah, it looks a hot little lappy if you're wanting portability and a half decent spec - that is if it can cope with Vista. I'd prefer to have an integrated DVD though and i'd run XP. But still, i'd prefer to choose this over an EeePC. |

if i was looking for an ultraportable right now, this would be at the top of my list, for sure.
I have the EeePC, and while good - it does lack in storage.
I also have a Dell XPS M1210, which is a good compromise in my opinion, between portability(it is pretty small) and power.
At the time when i got it, my choice was correct, however if i was looking again for a portable lappy, i think the HP would be at the top of my list. |

Bear in mind that the base model has 512MB RAM and a 4GB SSD for $499US, so without shelling out significantly more money it's basically the same spec as the EEE PC (but with a VIA chip, yuck) and slightly more expensive.
You do get a bigger screen, though.

I hope PC Authority are going to keep HP honest by following up on Mr Chong's claims of a higher spec for the Australian model to justify the higher AU$899 price. Maybe do a comparison of the spec of the US$749 top of the line model (which I have read elsewhere) with the spec of the Australian model when it arrives. It would have to account for the AU$90 difference in price (US$749 equates to about AU$809 at current exchange rates). I would be very interested to see what the differences are. |

dazza, lop Vista off the price (when an alternative is available), and you'll probably have a lower starting price. There may be other spec differences too. |

Bought one with 2gb RAM and Vista Basic. It looks good, easy to use, it's light, touch pad works, plenty of storage, wifi works, USB for peripherals, a good lightweight notebook for carrying around. The downside, its slow, the graphics cant play games and the battery runs out when the display is turned up full (what did I expect!). The heat is not a problem. Good value if the Eee is just too small for your needs. |
