It looks the Asus Eee Box isn’t the only interesting mini-desktop around. Amid the swathes of Centrino 2 and small form factor notebooks at IDF this week, we spotted this – a mini Centrino 2 desktop.

Only it’s not the Turbo Mode of the early 90s. Intel sheds new light on its Core (Nehalem) CPU, including excessive use of the word “turbo”.

They’re faster than hard drives, and save battery life, but do they last? Intel says yes, and has 80GB and 160GB SSDs on the way.

It looks like a high school science project, but is actually the first step towards one day wirelessly powering your notebook or mobile phone.

We’ve just seen the demo, and frankly, we’re blown away. High resolution beach-scapes, ultra-realistic water ripples, wind blowing through the tall grass. Wait, is that...?
