The announcement of a pair of 2GHz dual-core processors from ARM has drawn speculation over a new chip war with Intel in the netbook space, despite the fact that products based on the chips are not likely to appear for at least another year.

ARM's Director of Mobile Computing, Bob Morris, says he sees a "fundamental shift" in the PC industry towards lower power, "full day use model" devices and reckons his firm is well placed to bring the fight to Intel in the cheaper than Atom chips sub $200 market.

ARM is looking to tap into a new stream of revenue from netbooks, fending off Intel's invasion into the mobile space by pushing further and further into the PC space according to Bob Morris.
