Original versions of songs by The Rolling Stones, Muse and more!
Guitar Hero is such favourite in the PC Authority labs that if somebody were to glue the DVD tray of the PS2 shut we simply wouldn’t notice. So we were delighted when we received concrete news regarding the third instalment in the series.

Guitar Hero 3 has been announced; an Australian release is expected sometime in or around Spring 2007 (or Autumn Fall in the United States). It will make its way to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and 3 and Wii consoles; all of which will have a wireless controller available. They will be modelled after a Gibson Les Paul, have removable faceplates and a new colour button design for “an even greater authentic feel and rock experience”. We are waiting on a response from Red Octane to clarify if this redesign will make old guitars obsolete, which both we and Activision doubt.

In addition to the online leaderboards (which have almost certainly made the transition to the third instalment since their introduction on the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero 2), head-to-head online multiplayer has been added. Downloadable content is also available on multiple platforms. Watch this article for updates on pricing and availability.

And finally, there are many more original recordings in the upcoming instalment than previous versions. We have split the following incomplete track listing into original recordings and covers.

Studio Recordings
Knights of Cydonia -- Muse
Paint It Black -- The Rolling Stones
The Metal -- Tenacious D
Cherub Rock -- Smashing Pumpkins
Sabotage -- Beastie Boys
My Name is Jonas -- Weezer
Cult of Personality -- Living Colour

Covers
Rock And Roll All Nite -- Kiss
School’s Out -- Alice Cooper
Slow Ride -- Fog Hat
Barracuda -- Heart
