As anyone can imagine, the theft of a notebook computer can be both hugely expensive and massively inconvenient. Not only do you lose valuable hardware and software, but the documents and data contained within are often irreplaceable and represent many hours of hard work. Considering that more than 300,000 notebook computers were stolen in Australia last year, the value of an anti-theft device is paramount. The DEFCON1 has both a stainless steel cable and a motion sensor with a combination lock that easily attaches to your notebook or carry case. Any attempts to cut the cable or take the computer triggers the motion detector, sounding a piercing (I can assure you) 110-decibel alarm. An LED indicates the alarm status, hopefully preventing any embarrassing near-deafening accidents. The system is lightweight and very easy to use, and is powered by a standard 9-volt battery.
