Where can you get 24-hour help on the GST? The net of course! David Hellaby points you towards the Internets best GST resources.

There are numerous resources available to seek information on the Goods and Services Tax, ranging from the bare basics to complete guides to implementing a GST strategy in your company.

The most comprehensive resource is provided by the Australian Taxation Office on its Tax Reform Web site (www.taxreform.ato.gov.au). It provides information for every section of the population from the consumer to the tax professional. Anybody can visit the site, seek an explanation of any aspect of GST and other areas of tax reform. New articles are posted regularly along with draft tax rulings from the Tax Commissioner and many of them can be downloaded in either Adobe Acrobat (PDF) or rich text format (RTF). A search engine allows you to seek information by key word and a frequently asked question (FAQ) document is provided with answers to questions that have arisen at the many tax seminars being conducted around the country.

If you have a business and require assistance implementing a GST plan for your company, Maus Business Systems has published a software kit called GST Made Easy. The package contains a compact disc and 370 pages of GST information, 170 of which are in the form of a heavy-duty ring binder, and covers the implications of the tax for various types of business, tax rules, and sets out how to implement a GST plan across your business.
