David gave a very enlightening talk on The Internet of the Future. For a novice like myself, it was fascinating to hear how technology and the Internet has jumped forward in leaps and bounds. Although this doesn't seem to tie in with the predictions of 10 years ago!
He started off taking about why the future may not be what it seems. He also stated why his talk should be disregarded in a few years as you can't predict the unpredictable. His comments now could be held up as a laughable offence in years to come!
he filled us in on where we are at today and then gave overviews on the different connections to the Internet, the 'pros' and the 'cons'. Covering; ISDN, Cable, modems, Satellite Internet Delivery, DSL and not forgetting BlimpNet!!
To an audience of approximately 70 IT managers and decision makers he shed some light on Internet myths and methodology. I think we all came away with a better insight into where we are now and what we can expect in years to come.
