From Amazon to Vista: The 8 best Jon Stewart tech moments

by Daniel Long  on Feb 26, 2009
Inspired by the recent Jeff Bezos interview, we list our top 8 tech moments from Jon Stewart's Daily Show, from the weird to the kooky.

Jon Stewart's Daily Show is a blend of dry wit and satirical humour - perfect for making fun of all kinds of technology. Here are our top 8 Jon Stewart tech moments:

8) Qualcomm Karaoke mobile phone (Aka: Assmaker 2000)

Why it's funny?

As Stewart descibes it, the Karaoke phone is an ingenious way to sing to yourself, while paying monthly fees.  The silly looking device uses cartoon characters to inspire creepy karaoke sing-a-longs.

Best lines:

"...Here's one thing that's not taking off in any youth market - the phrase 'taking off like hot cakes'"

"...Sing along with several different animated characters, who will shortly become your only friends."

7) iPhone at the Oscars

Why it's funny?

Stewart makes fun of the iPhone's multimedia capabilities at the Oscars. He casually pulls the device out of his pocket and proceeds to watch Lawrence of Arabia, before turning the device on its side to watch the amazing cinematography in "widescreen".

Best lines:

"To really appreciate it, you have to see it in widescreen...(pause)...oh those are camels."

6) Scary robot soldiers:

Why it's funny:

Stewart chats to author P.W Singer about his book 'Wired for War'. The focus of Stewart's interview turns to the usual Terminator comparison - "When will they turn against us?" It turns out, Singer is a big fan of Stewart and the conversation gives a good insight into the way America approach the use of robots in the battlefield.

 Best lines:

"This is such a meal, this book. It's all so encompassing, where the robotics revolution came from, the ethics... I wish I had more than an hour to look it over."

"You're talking about the terminator...you're not talking about Twins?"

"You just blew my $^^%#*# mind brother".

5) Gameboy - The robotic baby

Why it's funny:

This slightly freakish robot baby provides Stewart with all the comedic ammunition he needs to take aim at the world of cyborg inspired robotics. The best part? When Stewart compares the robotic infant with the Terminator.

Best line:

"With its Silicon skin and over 16 facial expressions, Gameboy is virtually glitch free - unless you use your microwave and cell phone at the same time. Then it turns into an un-stoppable killing machine"
