I have Foxtel and I I don't think I'll be racing in to buy a Tivo. Foxtel IQ is ok for me and we watch free to air through foxtel.
Comment made about the PC Authority article: The Australian Tivo FAQ - What it does, will it skip ads, when it launches, will it work with Foxtel? A Foxtel IQ2 killer or just another DVR – we look at what Tivo is and isn’t for the Australian market in our special Tivo FAQ.

I am not too sure about this new development. Will it be less expensive but equal to or surpass Foxtel iQ in its capablities? I think it is a marketing ploy by 7 just in time for the Beijing Games |

I have just purchased one, at the full price, us early adopters get no discount. How is it? A REALLY good PVR for Free-to-air TV only. Foxtel users, this is not for you. TiVo is also nobbled for the Australian market. TiVo server, a program that connects a PC or Mac to the TiVo does not work! Guys, fix this up! And 160Gbyte is just too little. I will be recording everything on SD.
The User Interface: I think that my wife will be able to use TiVo, she could never master the last PVR (Topfield) but here the user interface is suitable for wives and Grannies, and this is, in my view, the highest recommendation.

if you really compare the 2... tivo is 160g... which is the same as the iQ foxtel brought out neraly 5 years ago. the iQ2 has in face 320g hard drive.... twice the size of the tivo box. i know i would rather pay 200 bux up front for a lifetime warranty box and then 10 bux a month extra.... if i get tivo for my fta channels and it goes wrong in 2 years, i have to spend another $700 to get a new one. Foxtel will fix it because I am renting their box and paid to upgrade. Does Tivo have a call centre like foxtel for ongoing support. I dont think so.... it is no comparison to Foxtel and the iQ2. |

You are so right Daniel - the first company to put out a PVR that can connect to Austar (MYSTAR) & Foxtel (iQ), as well as free to air will make a fortune of course you still pay for the programs but not have to hire a box. I cant wait. |

I used to have Foxtel and now have a Tivo. I like it...very simple to use, but worried about the sapce. I was sick and tired of watching American crap on Foxtel. 30 channels of crap. Picked mine up at DSE http://everydayrewards.dse.com.au/ |

I have had TiVO since its release and last week canceled my Foxtel service as I found I was no longer using it. This saves me $105.00 a month. Most of the programs we watched are available on fta and with TiVO it is easy to record and watch at our leisure. With Movies now available and future plans I think Foxtel is in trouble. |

Not that this is a comparison to TIVO / Foxtel IQ but I've had TIVO since it's release in Australia, and I think it is one of the best purchases I've made. Now with the ability to download movies through the TIVO service, it's slowly getting even better.
I've also purchased the Foxtel HD IQ box, but this I must say is a huge waste of time and money. Foxtel are far too slow in updating their service. What do I mean by this? Well "just about everything" is still Standard Definition, including the free to air stations you get through it. I'm far happier with the TIVO than with the FOXTEL HD IQ.

I've had a TiVo for about 2 months and it's the best $699 I have ever spent. Simple to use, great quality picture and fantastic support if you ever have questions. Love the new features that get added regularly. |

My previous PVR had both direction 10 second skip navigation - with this feature we NEVER used ffwd/rewind regardless of the speed. As i understand tivo can skip backwards and the IQ can't skip at all. That leaves beyonwiz or a pc based media center as the only options. Once you've had these features you just CANT go back |
