Finding files can be a challenge whatever operating system you use. The Google Desktop has been very helpful to Windows users and now Linux users can also see the benefit.

The Quick Search box is always accessible and is a fast way to start a search. This tool will also search the emails stored on a Google Mail account and web history.

In addition to Google Mail, Desktop also searches any plain text files on the computer, along with PDF, PS, HTML, OpenOffice.org documents, image, music files and emails from Thunderbird.

A useful touch for beginners to Linux is that the help pages (man) are also looked at so this is a good way to get information on software.

Google Desktop can also be used as a form of backup as it creates copies of files that it has searched, so you can find previous versions.

This download is an installation file (rpm) for Red Hat, Fedore, Suse and Mandriva x86 versions. Go to the main Google Desktop for Linux download page for the Debian and Ubuntu x86 verions.

System Requirements:

Requires glibc 2.3.2+, gtk+ 2.2.0+
