System Requirements:
New hard drives are a relatively cheap option for upgrading your current
system. A 250GB drive is now a nominal cost, so there’s no reason why you can’t
install this new drive and use it as your primary hard drive. However, this is
where the problems start: how do you migrate your data from one drive to the
other? Isn’t it simply easier to re-install Windows from scratch and then
individually re-install your applications?
That’s one option. The other option is to use a specialist tool that’s
designed to enable you to migrate your system data from your old to new drive.
By making a clone of your old drive, you can still boot in to Windows with all
your fonts installed and other libraries, that were part of your old system. As
you’ve only changed your hard drive, Windows shouldn’t need re-activating,
either.
The only problem is that you can’t simply use any backup or cloning tool to
migrate your data from your old to your new drive. For instance, your Windows
system partition/drive needs to be bootable.
XXClone is a tool that is designed to backup or clone your existing system
drive/partition and will create a bootable drive, so your cloned drive will
perform in the same manner as the mirrored device.
Note that this is the free version of XXClone, with a limited feature-set.
