Launch Ashampoo Photo Commander 3 for the first time, and you could easily be fooled into thinking it's just another image organiser. After all, it has the classic ingredients: Explorer-like window to navigate around your system, another pane displaying photo thumbnails, any of which can be viewed full-screen with a double-click. But there's much more to the program than that.

Take the file format conversion option, for instance. Not only does it let you convert images into one of 14 common (and not so common) formats, but you can also have the program carry out a host of other operations at the same time: change colour depth, resize the image, tweak gamma, brightness or contrast, apply a watermark, and much more. If you ever need to carry out the same operation on a bunch of images then this one function alone could save you hours of time.

The slideshow functions are powerful, too. Not only is it possible to select a few images and create a slideshow on your PC, you can also produce a stand-alone slideshow, complete with fancy transition effects, and even burn it to CD or DVD in a few clicks.

Other handy features include a smart JPEG optimizer, which can help trim your images down to size. And there's also a flexible bulk file renaming tool, a screen capture utility, and a variety of useful print options (including the ability to print contact sheets). It's a great collection of tools, and makes Ashampoo Photo Commander 3 a must for anyone interested in managing digital images.
