Ask yourself if, after years of using your PC, do you really know where drivers are stored, how they are updated, are allocated to your hardware and where you go to obtain updated drivers? Drivers aren’t included in any automatic update, so you may find that you’re using drivers that were designed back in 2002 on a machine you’re using in 2006.

There are few tools out there that will display and enable you to view your installed (and operational) system drivers. Driver Genius is one of them, which is a commercial application, but worth considering.

ServiWin is a free utility that displays the list of installed drivers and services on your system. Additional useful information can be displayed, which includes the driver description, version number and company that created the driver file. This enables you to easily find new drivers from the correct manufacturer.

If you’re finding that some drivers are causing system instability, ServiWin will enable you to stop, start, restart, pause, and continue service or driver, change the startup type of service or driver (automatic, manual, disabled, boot or system), save the list of services and drivers to file, or view HTML report of installed services/drivers in your default browser.
