Verdict: A great antivirus and antispyware program at no cost

Site checking software seem to fall in to one of two categories: either site checking software is provided for network administrators who need to monitor multiple servers, with different configurations, locally and across the Internet. The other category seems to be simply web (http://) server monitoring where you can check a page status to monitor whether the page is still online.

SiteUp falls in to the latter category. It’s a simple tool that will enable you to monitor multiple web sites and determine whether the server is still operational, based on whether the page can be accessed or not.

SiteUp doesn’t support any other server. You can’t enable it to monitor an FTP server, for example. Particularly a server that requires a username and password, for access. This means that if you used your homepage for storing important files that you want to share with friends, you can’t use SiteUp to monitor whether the site is operational, unless you setup a web page and check the page.

This application is well designed and simple to use, but we’d like to see the facility to enter a username and password and check the server through a login process, rather just a page check.
