Verdict: Reminiscent of the best old-school arcade games but with up-to-date graphics, Rocky Racers is pure intergalactic fun.

Five starships, including yours, compete in this 2D top-down race. The demo version lets you ride one track of a game where you can race against the computer, or online against other starship drivers.

It's fun and addictive, as your skill level noticeably improves with practice. Your starship turning in to what looks like a disco-ball when you hit an asteroid, and the Miami Vice-style car chase, speed metal music only add to the surreal excitement.

You can shoot the other racers, grab them with tractor beams or collect a cloak power-up so your ship becomes invisible to enemy lasers and tractor beams.

The game features customisable keys and multiplayer support through IPX and TCP/IP. It makes use of 3D accelerator hardware and you'll need an 8Mb Directx7-compliant video card if you want to play.
