Moving files to the Recycle Bin is no guarantee that they are gone for good, even when it is emptied. For absolute certainty, the space used by the file should be overwritten several times to prevent anyone from recovering the information.

Simple File Shredder can overwrite files a various number of times depending on the desired level of security and time available. It can use the US Department of Defence or Gutmann standards for overwriting 7 or 35 times respectively. For those in a rush a custom level of between 1 and 3 times can be selected.

Files can be added through a browse dialogue, drag and dropped into the interface or by using the right-click menu in Windows Explorer.

Beyond individual files and folders, Simple File Shredder can be used to remove system files or clean empty space on a hard disk. The system files option can delete files left by Internet Explorer or Firefox and remove the Windows Recent Documents list, files in the Recycle Bin or temporary documents.
