Netscape 8 may just give Netscape a fighting chance of some sort of comeback.
Maybe. The new look is certainly an improvement, and it offers a richer browsing
experience, with much faster page rendering.
Security is a big issue in Netscape 8, and the way they have chosen to
implement this is with the new Site Controls feature, which consists of a
continuously updated list of trusted websites. This gives you a visual rating
for each site you visit, for a quick idea of a sites trustworthiness.
An annoying feature is that it opens some sites using the IE engine, and
others in the Netscape engine. This is great in the sense that sites operate as
close as possible to the way the developer intended. It can be very confusing
however, as tasks like the 'find' feature can change for different sites.
A new feature called MultiBar lets you create multiple toolbars with
different buttons/content on, and lets you switch between them at the touch of a
button. A great way to pack more in.
It also features a Webmail tool for one-click checking of your webmail
account, and Live Bookmark functionality for retrieving RSS feeds in the
bookmarks sidebar.
Netscape 8.1 adds anti-spyware protection, dynamic security center, profile
manager, and enhanced RSS support features.
