Face it, some people prefer to control their computer through the command line. This goes back to the days when people had to do everything via DOS commands. To move files, it was actually easier to do this via DOS, than in old versions of Windows. This approach to using a computer has stuck with some people and companies such as Mozilla are attempting to utilise this within their technology.

Mozilla Ubiquity is new technology from Mozilla Labs that enables you to add a pop-up command line to Firefox (and other compatible browsers). For example, you can make the window appear with ALT + space and the command line will appear. You can then type in basic commands, such as to close a specific open tab or similar.

You can go far further than entering browser commands. You can use your Ubiquity command line to find and search for specific items, much like the Apple Spotlight search facility. Enter a word and Ubiquity will give you a list of options, including mapping, translating and sharing results.
