There are certain technologies which have monopolised their marketplace. Paying through PayPal is one of them. Despite other options, they’ve never really taken off. Recently we had to organise a transaction from the UK to the Netherlands. Both within the European Union, from a Euro to Euro account. Surely this transaction could be handled online, by logging in to our business account?
No, even in 2009 UK customers need to walk to their local bank, fill out a form, pay a transaction fee and wait for their bank to organise the transfer on their behalf. No wonder PayPal has proved to be so popular. For low-cost transactions, paying with PayPal is easy. You can choose to pay from a debit or credit card or directly from a bank account. If you get paid through PayPal, you can keep the money in your account or transfer back to your bank account.
The downside is that you need to use your web browser for this and, if you organise a wide number of PayPal transactions, you might want a better way of managing your transactions. For example, if your company receives payment through PayPal, you won’t want to keep logging in through your web browser.
GaragePay is a Mac-based application that handles your day-to-day PayPal transactions. You can download your latest receipts, refund money (in full or a partial payment), send money through the application and even export data in a CSV file so it can be imported in to your accounts, spreadsheet or other desktop application.
