If you’re one of the people who remember the old Napster days, when you could search, share and find just about any music file, you’ll also remember that it was immensely useful for finding rare and live tracks which weren’t available from your local HMV. The same applies to live video that may have been available in bootleg format, but was shared via peer-to-peer. These days, some of this video has been uploaded to YouTube, but it’s still good to be able to burn the content to disc so you can watch on your TV.

Problem is that there are few tools that enable you to prepare your disc from video encoded with a range of different formats. There were no specific video encoding formats in the late 90s, with Intel and others producing popular encoders. These days it’s a struggle to try and find tools that will import or convert these video formats.

DVDFlick is an interesting free DVD authoring tool that will enable you to build your own DVD video, from various sources. It supports a range of different codecs, include the old VCD MPEG-1 format through to more recent MPEG-4, as well as Intel Indeo 3 and many of the old codecs. You can drop in various videos, attach a soundtrack (DVDFlick supports a range of audio codecs, too) and then burn to disc.
