Much like designing your own home extension, when asked to create a mock-up of a website, just where do you start? Unless you’re a Photoshop whizz or can work a DTP tool, you need to be able to draw the relevant components and move them around when you present the design to your clients. This can be a time consuming an expensive process. Anyone who has commissioned a web design team will realise that half the quote is made up from the initial design process – so you end up with a Photoshopped mock design before you pay more to proceed.

This is the industry norm of course, much like working with an architect to design your home extension before you commit to the build work. However, there is no reason why you can’t do some of the initial work yourself. Mockups for Desktop is a standalone version of the tool that enables you to design your own website, homepage or even an application that will be hosted online. It’s difficult to describe. If you’ve ever used a home design tool, where you simply drop the components on to your design, then you’ll recognise the same technology. Start with a blank page and quickly drop in the shapes you want to mockup a web page. These components could be navigation tabs, a drop-down menu, web form or other sections.
