Your browser tends to follow a ‘catch all’ approach to saving the files you
want to download from the Internet. You either set your browser to download all
files to a particular folder or it will ask you each time where you want to save
your files. There is no middle ground. You can’t tell the browser to save some
files to one folder, but ask for unknown file extensions.
Automatic Save Folder is an add-on for Firefox that enables you to select a
destination folder based on the file extension. You may want you .mov files
located in a folder separate from your usual .exe or .zip files, for example.
The add-on goes further than just re-direct downloads based on file
extension. You can specify a download destination based on the source website.
For example, files you download from vnunet.com would be placed in a specific
folder.
It’s still early days for this add-on and is called as an ‘experimental
add-on’ by Mozilla.
