If you want a group of top-quality specialist developers working on your project, you’re less likely to employ these coders in-house and they’re likely to be located throughout the world. The advantage of the Internet and fast broadband is that it enables us to chat cheaply, setup a quick multi-territory video conference, swap files, make quick changes to code and swap notes without having to leave our desk.

However, it’s all too easy to work on some code, documents and other files and then simply forget to upload them to the remote server or email across to other users. You could use some kind of versioning system, but that would require a server, for everyone to have access and to make sure they check in/out the files.

The other option is collaboration software that’s designed to enable you to share your files, documents and other data with other users, automatically. There are a few of these around, namely SugarSync and Syncplicity, but these are designed as backup and synchronisation tools for synching your files across your computers.

TeamDrive is technology that enables you to share files between a group of users and to make sure each user has an updated version of the file, automatically. You won’t need a server, further technology or anything else to make sure your authorised users gain access to your files.

Note that the download here is for Windows XP and 2000. A Vista version is still in development, but can be downloaded from the TeamDrive website.
