Inkjet Printers

Winner Canon  Highly Commended Epson • HP
Canon inkjet printer

Canon wins with 93% of customers saying they'd buy another Canon inkjet.

According to our survey, 42% of 6290 inkjet buyers bought a standalone inkjet while 58% bought an all-in-one. We judged both together and asked people to rate Quality, Reliability and general Satisfaction (with the Value component including running costs).

As happened last year, Canon romped home – scoring top marks across the board thanks to positive responses from over 2500 buyers. Epson and HP weren’t too far behind and fully deserve their Highly Commended awards. Brother followed closely behind them. However, Lexmark and Dell (which uses Lexmark printers) were way off the pace.

94% of Canon customers were satisfied with Print Quality as opposed to 91% of Epson and HP customers and 86% of Brother buyers. However, only 73% of Lexmark and Dell customers were satisfied.

In terms of Reliability 90% of customers were satisfied with Canon. This figure dropped to 85% for Epson, 83% for Brother and 82% for HP. Dell’s printers’ Reliability only satisfied 74% of buyers, but Lexmark picked up the wooden spoon, satisfying 69% of its buyers.

Dell and Lexmark would hope to impress in the Value stakes due to their notoriously-cheap printers but their customers didn’t concur and less than 60% said they were satisfied with Value For Money. Even Canon only managed to satisfy 76% of buyers. Brother was best, satisfying 79%.

But the Buy Again factor was the cherry on top for Canon: 93% of buyers said they’d buy from Canon again. Brother, HP and Epson dropped just below 90% but Dell and Lexmark need to take a long hard look at themselves after only 55% and 60% of their customers (respectively) said they’d buy from the company again.
