Microsoft gets a new Logo as Windows 8 nears

Company also outlines upgrade offer for new Windows 7 PC owners.

It appears that the transformation of Microsoft into a Windows 8 company is almost complete. It has announced that its logo of 25 years has entered retirement, replaced by a new, serif-less font and a flattened version of the Windows logo. Basically its four coloured squares and something close to Arial in font.

We'd call it Metro-style, but that term is on the out at Microsoft. But it shows that the company is going all in with the new look and feel that dominates the non-desktop parts of Windows 8. It comes in the week when the company has launched the website for those who have purchased a Windows 7 system since June 7th this year.

You can register on the website now, but you won't get your code until the launch on October 26th. There is also the fact that it will cost you $US 14.99 to consider, and on a desktop at least we'd suggest you'll want to stick with Windows 7.

For the rest of us who want to upgrade, we'll get the chance at the $US 39.99 price when the consumer launch happens on October 26th.
