One of the more annoying things about the Xbox 360 is that Microsoft loves to lock content into time-limited deals. Skyrim’s first "Vampires and people-who-don’t-much-care-for-Vampires" based DLC pack, Dawnguard, launched on the Xbox 360 over a month ago, but there has been no news of when it would appear on other platforms. According to Bethesda’s blog the release date for the PC version of Dawnguard is, well, now. To celebrate Quakecon it has been released via Steam (we found restarting Steam helped it show up). If you act quick the actual Skyrim game is on sale as part of a Quakecon weekend, currently only $US 29.99 for one of the best games of recent years. Unfortunately the news isn’t quite as good on the pricing front for Dawnguard, coming in at a heady US $24.99, one of the largest price tags that we have seen slapped on a bit of DLC. Unfortunately for PS3 Skyrim fans, who have already suffered from a multitude of bugs and memory issues, the news isn’t as rosy. A separate post on Bethesda’s blog indicates that we won’t be seeing a PS3 Dawnguard release soon - “We are not satisfied yet with Dawnguard’s performance on the PS3. We would like for everyone to have a chance to play Dawnguard, but we aren’t going to release it for PS3 knowing that some people’s experience in Skyrim will be worse. We do everything we can to have our content available to all; from our free updates, to user mods, to paid DLC. We’re as disappointed as our fans when that isn’t the case, but we’ll continue to push for that reality.” It’s a nice attitude to have, but it is disappointing that it means PS3 fans are missing out. Here’s hoping the issues get fixed sooner rather than later.
