Turn your smartphone into a full-sized laptop with ClamBook

Turn your smartphone into a full-sized laptop with ClamBook

What if your phone was your PC? Meet the laptop that uses your phone's CPU.

If you're a fan of the emerging trend for 'transforming' hybrid devices like the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime or Intel Letexo Ultrabook, this might be interesting.

Dubbed 'ClamBook', it's essentially an ultraportable laptop that uses your smartphone's CPU. Boasting a 13.3in LED widescreen display, 3D Cinema Sound audio and a full-size keyboard, the ClamBook acts like a laptop accessory for your smartphone.

Finished in aluminium, the ClamBook has a passing resemblance to the Macbook Air as well as some Ultrabooks.

The concept will be familar to users of the Motorola Atrix Laptop Dock. However, instead of attaching to a docking station, the ClamBook uses a proprietary MHL cable that allows the device to work with multiple handsets; regardless of their shape or size.

The benefits of the device over a standalone smartphone are obvious, ranging from a much larger screen to easier text-input and prolonged battery life.

The ClamBook is slated for a "holiday 2012" release.

The ClamBook seems to be primarily designed for high-end handsets such as the Apple iPhone 4S, HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III. However, it is in theory compatible with any phone boasting a multi-core processor.
