Tech deals: Get an Asus Eee Pad Transformer from GraysOnline for $299

For a limited time, you can get Asus' Transformer TF101 laptop/tablet hybrid for half the original retail price.

GraysOnline is currently offering the Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101 for $299; around $300 less than the original retail price.

The Eee Pad Transformer TF101 is a 10.1in tablet that runs on Android Honeycomb. There is an optional keyboard dock which turns the unit into a netbook, but there is no mention of this on the listing on the GraysOnline site, so we asusme the $299 price is for tablet only. Specifications include a 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, a 16GB SSD drive and Nvidia ULP GeForce graphics.

There is also a keyboard equipped model listed on GraysOnline for $399.

It's worth noting that both these Eee Pad Transformer in the Grays Online deal is a 'refurbished' model. This means it is unboxed and has possibly seen some use, but remains good-as-new.

When we posted our review of the Asus Eee Pad Transformer back in August last year, we gave it five out of six stars - we like the IPS screen, but noticed YouTube HD clips weren't totally smooth. As a tablet we preferred it to Motorola's (to be superseded) Xoom. While we did question the rationale of paying extra for the keyboard dock, we did note that without the dock, the Transformer's battery life was less than the Xoom. With it, the Transformer's battery life was almost on par with the iPad 2.

The Transformer has since been superceded by the latest generation of hybrid tablets, including the Tegra 3-equipped Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime.

I think that the link to the "keyboard equipped model" is actually the 32GB model with no keyboard.

GraysOnline is extremely deceptive.

The price becomes quite inflated once everything is added up. And it is still dodgy uninspected goods.

$399 with KB and $9.95 delivery sounds GREAT - until you see it is out of stock.

Apparently ASUS flogged a lot of these but ICS (Android 4)-equipped ones are around the corner.
