Microsoft reveals Australian pricing for new Xbox 360: Sleeker, smaller and hoping to 'Kinect' with gamers

The Xbox 360 has been a given a stylish makeover, but will it be worth the money? We outline the extra features and local pricing here.

The new look Xbox 360 will be available in Australia from July 1st for $449. The unit ports a larger 250GB hard drive, a sleeker black chassis which makes it look more like a PS3, and built-in WiFi N.

As a quick price comparison, that's a tad more expensive than some of the bundles going around in the larger gaming retailers for older models. EB Games has an Xbox 360 Elite bundle (120GB) going for $399, with four free games - which proves there is still good value to be had on the slightly older systems.

As we've reported, Microsoft has made a public demonstration of Kinect, an Xbox accessory that allows players to control games with the movement of their body. We're hoping that because that gaming platform relies on body movements, there's less chance of needing to buy additional controllers in the future.

And in what could be new alternative to Skype, Microsoft say they have future plans to expand Kinect technology with an eye towards video chat services, running side by side with Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger software.

Later this year, Microsoft is expected to ramp up their partnership with Foxtel, with Foxtel channels delivered over an Internet connection to the Xbox.
