Updated: SanDisk rolls out 32GB microSD cards

SanDisk has unveiled its first 32GB SD card. The microSDHC cards will primarily target the growing smartphone market, particularly users who store large numbers of photos and media files.

"With the large volume of photos, videos and music that consumers create and carry around, a high-capacity memory card is a must-have component of today's smartphone," said Sanjay Mehrotra, president and chief operating officer of SanDisk.

"This is the highest capacity card of its type, and SanDisk is pleased to be the first to ship such an advanced product."

The cards will ship in the US and Europe next month and will retail at US$199. We will bring you news of Australian pricing and availability as soon as it comes to hand.

SanDisk rolled out a conventional SD card with a 64GB capacity last month, claiming that they could scale up to 2TB.

**Update: A Samsung represenative has confirmed to PC Authority, that "the new card is available now on SanDisk.com U.S. and European e-commerce sites, with worldwide retail availability to follow in late Q2 of 2010." So it shouldn't be long now before we see the cards stocked on shelves in Australia.
