SimCity's sandpit

SimCity bucked the status quo - spending literally hour upon hour fastidiously obsessing over roads and building placement wasn't exactly something gaming was famous for.

For those that played the original (eventually released on IBM PC, Amiga and Commodore 64 and Mac) or the early 1990s followup, SimCity 2000 - the following video for the new version of the game might be interesting.

The game is slated for next year and the level of simulation shown is impressive - down to the level of individual Sims who travel to work and create traffic jams.

Also intruiging is the ability to play on the same game world as other online players - the SimCity web site states players will be able to send fire trucks to help a friend's city. Your city pollution has the potential to affect another player's Sims.
