Dell today announced the availability of its largest all-in-one PC desktop to-date: the XPS One 27, available today starting at $1,699.
As its name implies, the XPS One 27 is an all-in-one PC boasting a 27-inch 2560xm1440 Full Quad HD WLED display. According to Dell, this is one of the most vibrant displays it has ever offered, with the addition of Nvidia GeForce GT 640M graphics bolstering its gaming and media credentials.
Other product highlights include a third-generation Intel Core i5-3450s or i7-3770s CPU with Intel Turbo Boost technology, up to 8GB DD3 memory, a 1TB 3.5in 7200RPM HDD or mSATA SSD drive, four USB 3.0 ports, a slot loading DVD drive and integrated 7.1 Surround Sound. The system runs on Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium OS.
The Dell XPS One 27 also comes with a “space-saving” wireless mouse and keyboard which have been optimised for digital workspaces and gaming.
According to Dell, the XPS One 27 is designed primarily for multimedia creation and entertainment. We can see how the iMac-like design would appeal to anyone editing video and working with graphics, but the entertainment market is a somewhat different story.
Indeed, when it comes to gaming and other PC enthusiast pasttimes, the ability to get inside your case and upgrade your system is of paramount importance. In an era of shrinking laptops and phones, the PC tower is still one piece of hardware that invites learning and tinkering. We wonder whether a bigger display is unlikely to entice DIY gamers into the all-in-one fold.
