Recon, the creator of the MOD heads-up-display toting sports goggles, has just announced it will be releasing an SDK for Android app developers at Google I/O.
This is coupled with news that Recon will be releasing new hardware for other sports including a pair of heads-up-display toting glasses, taking the fight directly to Google Glass. Although with this announcement being so closely linked to Google we suspect the company is simply preparing an open source app market in preparation for its AR glasses.
The Recon MOD goggles allow developers to create apps that use its many sensors including – deep breath – an altimeter, barometer, 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyro, 3-axis magnetometer, temperature sensor, Bluetooth, and GPS. An app called Realski has already been developed to help skiers traverse ski resorts without the need for maps or, more importantly, stopping.
To get involved as a developer and receive a free pair of MOD goggles head to Recon Instruments.
