New Japanese smartphone comes with radiation detector

Sharp's Pantone 5 is the world's first gamma ray detecting mobile phone.

Sharp has just revealed its Pantone 5 mobile which, in a world first, comes packing a radiation detector.

The Pantone 5 is a pretty impressive phone even without the gamma ray reader that manages to detect between .005 and 9.99 μSv/h of radiation. Sharp has packed in a 3.7in ICS display, dust and waterproofing, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and it's available in eight colours.

We doubt we’ll be getting the Sharp Pantone 5 (or luckily, needing it) in Australia anytime soon.
