iOS jailbreak so easy "your grandma could do it"

Apple jailbreaking is not only not going away, developers are bragging about how "easy" it is to do.

We don't normally report on iOS jailbreaking news - Apple does not approve of the practice and it also voids your product's warranty. That said, we thought the new Absinthe A5 2.0 jailbreak interesting for a couple of reasons.

First, the creators claim over one million users have downloaded the Absinthe A5 jaibreak. Second is how easy the creators claim their new tool is to use.

"After copious amounts of work and many sleepless nights Absinthe 2.0 is finally here to jailbreak your device," explains Chronic Dev Team on their website. "This jailbreak supports firmware 5.1.1 ONLY and is again one of the most easiest jailbreaks to use (so easy your grandma could do it)."

Indeed, the step-by-step instructions on the Chronic Dev Team website certainly do seem simple, though we'll refrain from republishing them here.

The latest untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1, Absinthe 2.0, is compatible with a wide variety of Apple devices running iOS 5.1.1, including most versions of the iPhone, iPad and iPod.

Like all jailbreaks, Absinthe 2.0 allows users to bypass the security limitations imposed by Apple and gain deeper access to the iOS operating system. This allows users to download additional applications, extensions and themes that are unavailable through the official Apple App Store. However, it also voids the product's warranty.

This article we posted back in 2010 about legal issues surrounding jailbreaking might also be worth reading.
