Pioneer debuts AR satnav

Carrozzeria Cyber Navi will provide a huge heads-up display for your motor

Pioneer’s Carrozzeria Cyber Navi system uses extremely bright pico projector technology from MicroVision to overlay a display the equivalent of a 720 x 260 resolution 37-inch screen three meters in front of the driver’s seat. So you never take your eyes off the road.

It also displays augmented reality information – like lane alerts – “on top” of the road. It’ll tell you when you’re driving too close to the car in front, and even holds a little reticle over it as if you’re about to launch a laser-guided missile, 007-style.

Sadly you’ll have to move to Japan if you want to use the system, which is due to launch in late July. Prices start at ¥300,000 (around $3,800), so you might want to start saving too…
